Obituary

Betsy Louise Miller now rests peacefully, having passed from us on March 17, 2011, at her most recent home, Avalon Health and Rehabilitation in Pasco, Washington. Betsy was born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1958, in Kennewick, to Richard and Elizabeth Miller. At age 13, she was diagnosed with brain cancer, a seemingly devastating blow for a beautiful, bright and sociable girl. We soon found what she was really 'made of' as a person: extraordinary courage and strength, and ability to demonstrate caring for others whom she considered 'worse off'! In spite of such personal challenges, she did return to school and graduated from Kennewick High School with her classmates in 1977. Betsy left no record of gainful employment. She did love children and cherished her days volunteering as an aide in a first grade class at Canyon View Elementary School in Kennewick. She became very proficient in crafts such as crewel embroidery, cross stitch, and weaving. She did not tolerate mistakes! As a traveler in the 5th wheel trailer with Mom and Dad, she was A-1, and saw much of the beauty of our western states, including Alaska. Betsy was very spiritual and chose to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2000. She was a member of East Kennewick 8th Ward until moving to Avalon and the Pasco Stake in 2003. She enjoyed her calling in the primary, with young children. Surviving Betsy are her mother and father, two sisters: Sarah Baugh John of Kennewick; and Andrea Tandy Doyle Adam of Richland; three nieces: Mary Elizabeth Claybrook Kevin of Pasco; Megan Phillips Brendin and Jennifer O'Lynch, both of Richland; two nephews: David Miller and Joseph Doyle of Richland; and, of course, the little grand nephews and nieces: Landon, Dawson, Adalynn, and Madisyn Claybrook. We invite you to join us in honoring Betsy at her memorial service on Saturday, March 26, 2011, 10:30 a.m., at the church located near Avalon on Road 24 2004 Rd 24 in Pasco, Washington. Some suggestions in lieu of flowers might be a visit to a lonely friend, a phone call you have 'put off' making, or even a day when your smiles to others come easier than usual.
