The beloved Bertha Maria Beno, 92, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2006 at Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House in Kennewick. She was born in Wainwright, Alberta, Canada, on August 30, 1913. Her parents came to the United States and settled in Port Angeles, where she attended school and later started her teaching career. She met and married her life-long partner, Maxwell Fredrick Beno, there, and they were married in 1937. Bertha won the Port Angeles Salmon Derby in 1938 and received a brand new sleek, black, beautiful eight-cylinder Studebaker Sedan as First Prize. It was one of the many high points in her life and Max's because he had taught her to fish. They both loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. these hobbies were a big part of their lives. Mas and Bertha lived in Spokane, WA from 1946-1982, where Bertha taught school in the Mead District, starting at Five Mile School, teaching 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade combined and later moving to Whitworth Grade School, when the Five Mile School was closed. She then taught 2nd grade until she retired in 1973. Max passed away in 1997 and Bertha has missed him very much. We all know that they are already on a big camping trip together in heaven and have all the dogs that they loved so much with them. Bertha loved to travel and they had done a lot of travel after their retirement, as long as it did not interfere with bird hunting or fishing. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Ken Kuklinski, of Pasco; son and daughter-in-law, Don and Lenore Beno, of Prior Lake, Minnesota; granddaughters, Teresa and Michele Kuklinski; grandsons, Stuart and Chad Beno of New York State and her very special pride and joy, Great-grandson, maxwell Kuklinski-Hanson. She will be buried beside her husband, Max, in the family cemetery in Middleton, Oregon. At her request, there will be no services.
