Benny Boyd DeRoos age 86, passed away in Kennewick, Washington on September 6th, 2026. He was born January 20th, 1940, to Arthur Thomas Brownie and Inga Brownie in Greensboro, North Carolina. When he was five, he and his two brothers, Les and Tom were adopted by his stepfather Nick DeRoos. When he was 19, he married Norma Olson on October 22nd, 1959, they were together for 57 years.

Benny joined the military when he was 17 years old and went on to serve for twenty years, retiring in 1977. In 1978, he started working as a pressman for Tri-City Herald in Kennewick, Washington, where he worked until his retirement in 2002. He was an active member of the VFW Post #5785, where he would help raise donations by selling poppy flowers outside of various stores. He was an avid football fan and would watch his 3 boys play football in high school. Benny was a talker and liked to tell stories about his life to anyone who would listen.

Benny is survived by his children, Robin Dyer, Kathleen Scott (Russ), Jeff DeRoos (Vicki), James DeRoos (Diana), and Greg DeRoos (Tracey). His grandchildren, Chelsea, Austin, Whitney, Bryanna, Lindsay, Simon, Trenton, Joseph, Emily, Dakotah and Lauren. Great-grandchildren Hayden, Eric, Sophia, Mercy, and Jethro. Sister-in-laws, Carolyn DeRoos, Karen DeRoos, Julie Gunderson, half siblings, Toni Moody, and Mark Brownie, stepsister Lorraine Duke, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends Nicole Greenfield, Diane Dauphine and Alma Garcia. He is preceded in death by his wife Norma, his parents, brothers, Les and Tom DeRoos, half-brothers, Tam and Gregory Brownie, half-sister, Laurell Ham and stepbrother, Ron DeRoos.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 10 am, at Mueller’s Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 1401 S. Union St Kennewick, WA.
