Barbara Joyce Northern was born on June 9, 1943 in Kildaire, Texas to Dave and Evelyn Butcher. She departed this life at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane on December 11, 2022. The Butcher family moved to Pasco in 1951. Growing up in Pasco, Barbara developed a love for gardening, cooking, sewing and helping others.

Through her life in Pasco, Barbara attended school at Pasco High School. She met and married Will Northern on March 21, 1961 and they lived together happily for 55 years. Through their marriage, the family enjoyed fishing, camping, family picnics and barbeques until the loss of Will's life in 2016.

Barbara worked at Hanford for several years as a Laboratory Assistant. After which she helped and supported family businesses such as Jean's BBQ and Butcher's Lumbar Yard. Barbara also worked for several years with In-Home Services preparing meals and helping the elderly.

Barbara was a profound cook and prepared great dishes for the sick, shut-ins and the homeless. Meals were often prepared and provided to Union Gospel Mission during the holiday season.

As a loving grandparent, Barbara shared time, love and inspiration to each one and continued to support their activities and success. She had 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren to share her love with.

Barbara will be loved and missed by many. She is proceeded in death by her husband Will Northern and son, Will Northern Jr. her parents, Evelyn and Dave Butcher, and siblings, Willard Sonny Butcher, Jean Jones, Reba Wright and James Butcher.

Surviving siblings are Louse Braxton, Seattle, Wilbert Butcher, Portland, Johnny Butcher, Seattle and Lee Butcher, Spokane. Her children include Deborah Northern, Renton, Michael Northern, Tacoma, Tina Northern, Tacoma, Teresa Northern, Pasco and Shannon Northern, Seattle.
