Obituary

Arturo Lopez passed away April 7, 2013, in Pasco, Washington. He was born August 23, 1925, in Mercedes, Texas, to parents Guadalupe Garcia Lopez and Federico Lopez. Arturo was the second oldest of fourteen children. He had ten brothers and three sisters. He spent much of his early life doing migrant farm work following the crops from state to state. In 1951, he married Sara Sanchez in Prosser, Washington. Their daughter, Amanda, was born in Prosser and their other three children were born in Texas. In 1963, they settled in Othello, Washington. Arturo worked extremely hard all his life. He worked as a bus driver for the Bracero Program taking workers from Mexico to harvest crops in several of the United States, and he was a fryer operator for Chef-Reddy Foods in Othello, but his true love was driving trucks. He was a long-haul driver and eventually bought his own semi, hauling potatoes until his retirement in 1989. Following retirement, he moved to Burien, Washington, and finally settled in Pasco in 2007. Arturo is survived by his four children, Amanda Robel (Tim) of Yakima, Washington, Maria Henrickson (Patrick) of Kennewick, Washington, Arturo Lopez Jr. (April) of Kennewick, Washington, and Alfredo Lopez (Yisset) of Menifee, California, as well as twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, eight siblings and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff of the Tri-Cities Retirement Inn for their wonderful care and dedication to Arturo during his stay there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy, 1480 Fowler St., Richland, WA 99352, whose hospice care was greatly appreciated by Arturo's family. Services were held Wednesday, April 10th, 2013 at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick.
