Obituary

Andrew L. Sorn was born to Richard and Patricia Sorn on Homestead Air Force Base in Florida on November 11th, 1965. He was the youngest of four boys. As an Air Force family, the Sorns moved every couple of years, eventually making their home in Union, Oregon. From a very young age, Andy had a knack for bringing people together in laughter, whether he be bouncing up and down in his diaper while watching his beloved Batman on TV, or dunking his French fries in his A&W root beer float to cool them off before eating them. Throughout his adolescence and into young adulthood, Andy mastered two things: athletics and forging lifelong friendships. Andy was a gifted athlete, excelling in basketball, cross country, and especially baseball, which he continued playing after high school. Along with gathering accolades and trophies, Andy gathered friendships that were a testament to his devotion to fun and loyalty to the people that he loved. When Andy let someone into his life, he stayed forever and without question.

Andy met the love of his life, Jennifer, in Boise, Idaho in 1989, and they were married in 1995. The young couple eventually settled in Kennewick, where they created a life built upon a solid foundation of adventure, growth, love, and God. Their marriage was a lively illustration of what it truly meant to be a team, from raising their family to running their businesses. Jennifer and Andy. Andy and Jennifer. When you got one, you got the other. They had each other's backs, supporting each other in everything they did, and there was nothing they couldn't do together. Even when Andy didn't completely buy into Jennifer's "crazy" ideas, he'd back her anyway and tell her jokingly in his best southern accent, "It's a good thing you're purdy," while handing her a fresh cup of coffee and a plate of eggs. They loved to travel and visited many states and countries, boasting only one RV accident in New Zealand, that they laughed about often. They filled their days with an abundance of fun and adventure, packing their camper to the brim to set out on trip after trip with beloved friends every chance they got. Concerts, rodeos, weekend get-aways, sunset floats on the Columbia River, and relaxing beside a comfortable firepit in their own backyard solidified their love as a couple, with Andy leading every step of the way. Andy lived a life of growth, transforming several houses into homes, building businesses, and creating a family that he was fiercely devoted to.

Andy was the epitome of a loving father to daughter, Giavanna, or as he would refer to her, The Pook, and more recently Fart Blossom, and son, Riley, also known as Top Shelf and Governor. His children were everything to him, and he showed it in thousands of tiny and significant ways. He would pop up unexpectedly at Gia's work with coffee in hand, armed with priceless advice at the ready whenever she needed it. He spent hours fishing with Riley, and taking trips to the dump, or "The Big Store," as he called it, stopping for bug juice along the way. Andy cheered from infinite bleacher seats, and offered his elevated opinion to a sea of incompetent referees on Gia and Riley's behalf, over many years. He whisked them away on camping and boating trips, spending countless hours pulling them on innertubes and wakeboards. He fostered their interests, rooting for them endlessly, and making it possible for them to spread their wings confidently, knowing that they'd always have a safe place to fall. He enthusiastically waved to them both from the kitchen window every time they entered the driveway, and dropped everything, without a second thought, to help them, lessen their burden, come to their rescue, or simply be a listening ear, without fail and without hesitation. Andy was their coach, their mentor, their role model, their comedic relief, and their provider; his pride in the young adults they had become visibly lit him from the inside and brought him a tremendous joy that was only multiplied by the wonderful spouses, Dontae and Kieanna, that they have chosen to share their lives with.

Andy was a champion for everyone he loved; his promises were as good as gold, and he took care of his people, not loudly or brashly, but in a powerful and meaningful silence that spoke volumes about the man he was. He was often the voice of reason when someone needed to be "talked off a cliff," and would help by providing a list of heavily-researched information and facts to put worried minds at ease. If his family or friends needed something from him, it was as good as done; he would carry those he loved on his back and give everything he had to help them in their time of need; he proved this over and over again unfailingly, and often with great humor that lightened the load of those around him.

Andy nurtured a strong relationship with God, becoming baptized later in life, and finding comfort and wisdom in His word. He looked to God for answers in everything he did, including bringing his friends and family together in love. As an ordained minister, Andy had the pleasure of officiating the weddings of four of his best friends, and both of his children in humor-filled, Christ-centered ceremonies. Andy's faith and willingness to make the lives better for those he loved was limitless, and for that he will never be forgotten and will "dwell in the house of the Lord forever."-Psalm 23:6

Andrew Sorn is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer, his daughters, Giavanna Powell (Dontae) and Terin Sorn, his son, Riley Sorn (Kieanna), and his grandson Desmond Sorn, along with many family members who love him dearly.
