Altha Skogley was born in Deer Lodge, MT on March 4, 1923 to Conrad Skogley and Ida Skogley. She was raised in the small farming town of Mott, ND with two sisters and six brothers. They all lived through the great depression and said they never really noticed as they didn't have much to start with. They had love of family to carry them through. Altha was part of what has been said to be the Greatest Generation; those who lived through the depression and fought in World War II. Altha joined the Navy WAVE'S during WWII and was stationed at the Pasco Naval Air Station where she met Neil Simmelink, a local wheat farmer, who was also in the navy. After the war ended, they were married and had 4 sons: Terry, Lee (Sharon), Dennis (Jullie), Lynn and a daughter Janet, Janet Died in a car accident in 1976. Neil Passed away in April of 1985 at the age of 62 and Altha married John Perry on Valentine's Day in 1998 John Passed away in November of 2007 at the age of 85. Altha leaves behind her 4 sons, 9 grandchildren 20 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, brother Gerald Skogley and Sister Roberta Swanson as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Altha was from the "old School" and sent cards and letters to hundreds of people every year. She was able to bring comfort to others parents who had lost a child by sharing her experience and her faith with them. Altha & Neil had a lifelong passion for antiques. Their home was filled with Cranberry Glass and RS Prussia China. After Neil's passing she owned and operated "Altha's Antiques" in Angus Village. Altha and John were avid dancers and spent many a night dancing up a storm. Altha has been a member of Kennewick First United Methodist Church for 75 years. A Celebration of Life is Friday September 15th at the Kennewick First United Methodist Church at 11:00AM followed by a reception. Graveside service will be at 2:30PM at Desert Lawn Memorial Park on 10th & Union with Military Honors.
