Zenobia R. "Zoe" Scoggins Hilst, 91, passed away on April 11, 2014, of natural causes. Mrs. Hilst was born in Connerville, OK on August 13, 1922. She graduated from Shamrock High School in Shamrock, Texas and continued on to take night courses as a young woman. She and Max F. Scoggins were married on August 15, 1945, a marriage that lasted 40 years. They had one daughter, Carmen Patrice Swift. Mr. Scoggins passed away on Nov. 29, 1982. Zoe married Glenn Hilst in the spring of 1986. Glenn Hilst passed away in September 2008. Zoe worked for the State of Washington as an Adjudicator for many years. Following her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family, golfing, gardening and bridge. Zoe was always in touch with her family as they were the center of her life even though they moved across the country in 1966. Max and Zoe lived in Glastonbury Conn. and relocated to Olympia, WA during the 70s and 80s. Her father, Odis W. Ratchford; mother, Ellen Theresa Ratchford; and her younger brother, Gwinn Dale Ratchford, also preceded Zoe in death. She is survived by her brother Wayne Ratchford (Evelyn); sister Maudotha Ratchford; and youngest sister Billie Lanora Hightower (Don); daughter, Patrice S Swift (Ned); two grandchildren, Billie Swift (Dustin) and Kaeli Swift (Kirk); two great-grandchildren (Nadia Simone and Agustus D. Swift-Norlander); and many loving step children, nieces and nephews. Zenobia will long be remembered as an extraordinary mother, wonderful wife, adoring grandmother, a "stand by" daughter and a loving sister. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
