Bill Taylor passed away very peacefully and joined his Heavenly Father on August 21, 2012. He was born in Miles City, Montana on October 20, 1930. He spent his youth active in the Boy Scouts, growing to love fishing and camping. Bill moved to Kennewick after WWII and graduated from Kennewick High School in 1948. There he met his future wife, Mary Ellen Block. They were married in 1950. Bill served in the Naval Reserves as he and Mary Ellen started their family. He began working at Hanford in the mid 1950's and worked there for over 35 years. He became one of the top Nuclear Safety Engineers in the U. S., serving as a member of a DOE "Tiger Team" assessing safety procedures at nuclear reactors across the country. Throughout his life, Bill had always been active with his family and in the community. He coached his sons' Little League Baseball and Grid Kids Football teams. As a dad, he was extremely supportive of all his children's activities. The family would go on camping and fishing trips throughout the Northwest. He could easily win the award for "World's Greatest Grandfather". He was wonderfully supportive of and generous toward his six grandchildren over the years. Participation in their activities was so important to him that he traveled as far as Iowa to attend their events. He was always doing his part to make the community a better place. His service began with the JayCees in the 1950's. He served several years as a volunteer firefighter. After retiring from Hanford he worked as a volunteer at the McNary National Wildlife Refuge. Bill's Christian faith and involvement in ministry was a huge part of his life. He taught Sunday School classes at West Highlands Methodist Church, served many years as an elder at Tri-City Christian Reformed Church, and helped in the founding of his most recent place of worship, Grace United Reformed Church. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Arlo and his step-father Howard Shaw. Bill is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years Mary Ellen. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Ann Sampson of San Luis Obispo, California. Bill leaves his four children, Mike Kellee of Vancouver, Washington; Steve Janet of Spokane Valley, Washington; Neil Carrie of Kennewick, Washington; and Lori Rob of Lakewood, Colorado. He will be missed dearly by his six grandchildren: Kathy Larsen Parker Parsons, Amy Taylor, Derek Taylor Lauren, Julie Murphy John, Megan Shryock Brandon and Matt Osgard. Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 South Union, Kennewick, is in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will be held at Grace United Reformed Church, 2500 W. 4th Avenue in Kennewick, on Friday, August 24, at 2:00 in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
