Wayne F. Stolle, 81, a resident of Kennewick, Washington since 1948, passed away due to complications from Alzheimer?s on August 1, 2007, at Hospice House at Tri-Cities Chaplaincy in Kennewick. Wayne was born February 16, 1926, in Iona, Minnesota, to William and Mary Stolle. He spent his early years in Minnesota and enlisted in the Navy in 1944, where he was involved in several Pacific Theater operations during WWII. Following his discharge in 1947, he joined the Naval Reserve and in 1950 he was called into active duty during the Korean War. Wayne proudly continued to serve in the Naval Reserve as a Chief Hull Maintenance Technician until he retired in 1986. Following WWII, Wayne settled in Kennewick where he met and married Gladys Marie Johnson in 1954. He was employed by Richland School District for 21 years as a maintenance worker, groundskeeper, and school bus driver. He developed many friendships and had fond memories of his years with the school district. Wayne and Gladys were longtime members of Kennewick First Lutheran Church. Wayne was active for many years in the VFW and enjoyed delivering meals as a volunteer with the Kennewick Senior Center. He enjoyed collecting antiques, traveling and reading. He acquired an extensive library over the years, including many Western novels. Wayne will always be remembered for his devotion to his wife, Gladys, his love for his family and his unquenchable optimism and patriotism. He was especially devoted to his grandchildren and had many happy memories of times spent with them. He is survived by his son, Clark Stolle; grandchildren Kaitlyn and Kyle Stolle all of Kennewick; his sister Betty Aldrich Puyallup, WA and various nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years Gladys Marie Stolle; his parents William and Mary Stolle; sisters Irma Karl and Elaine Dittmar; and brothers John Stolle and Roy Stolle. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at Hospice House and Callaway Gardens who provided such wonderful care to Wayne and support to his family.
