Virginia M. Swisher, 92, went to be with the Lord on June 9, 2006, 30 days after her husband of 66 years passed away. Virginia was born in Crosby, North Dakota on January 29, 1914 to Henry L. and Ada Sherwood. When she was young, the family moved to the Sandpoint, Idaho area where they homesteaded. She graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1931, Northern Idaho College of Education now Lewis and Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho in 1933 and Central Washington College in 1963. She began her long teaching career in Hope, Idaho and taught several small grade schools in north Idaho. She met her future husband, George W. Swisher, while she was teaching in St. Maries, Idaho, and they were married on July 27, 1940. Following George's release from active duty in the Army, they returned to St. Maries. In 1956, they moved to Connell and she taught full time in Connell from 1958 until 1965. They moved to Pasco in 1965 and Virginia began teaching at Jefferson Elementary School in Richland. She retired from the Richland School District in 1976. They lived in Pasco until 2003 when they moved to the Manor at Canyon Lakes where they enjoyed assisted living. Early this year, they moved back to Pasco to reside at "From the Heart" adult family home, where Virginia was lovingly cared for until her death. George and Virginia attended Pasco First Presbyterian Church and Kennewick First Presbyterian Church. Virginia enjoyed family, especially her two grandchildren. She loved to prepare and serve the traditional holiday family meals at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She also enjoyed playing golf and bridge with her friends. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, George, her brother, Bob Sherwood, and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Luada, of Wishram, WA; her son, Bob, and his wife, Nilea, and their children, Kevin and Kylie; as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Pasco First Christian Church, 1524 W. Marie, on Thursday, June 15, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. Virignia was buried on June 14, 2006 beside her husband, George, at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice, 2108 West Entiat, Kennewick, WA 99336.
