VINCENT DELISO July 23, 1924 - November 9, 2015 Vincent Albert DeLiso, 91, of Pasco WA passed away on Monday November 9, 2015, at Hospice House at the Chaplaincy in Kennewick. He was born July 23, 1924, in Delmont New Jersey and was raised in Philadelphia with his siblings Joe, Mary, Emma, and Tom. Vince joined the Army Air Corps at 19 serving as a B-17 tail-gunner. He was shot down, captured, and suffered the 87-day Death March across Northern Germany remaining a POW until the end of World War II. Vince graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering. His first job with General Electric in Cincinnati included the development of jet engines and nuclear propulsion. He continued to pioneer nuclear technology and rockets for the Apollo program. He also was a college professor in Minnesota and took his last job with the Atomic Energy Commission in Maryland, retiring in 1986. He married Eleanor McConnell in Cincinnati; together they had three daughters and a son (Antoinette, Sara, Elena, and Sebastiano - an infant son died at birth). After Eleanor's death, he married Claudine Johnson Rinehart of Pasco WA and she and her son, Martin, joined the family. Vince mentored many young people, advising on education and their futures. He enjoyed talking to student assemblies and would always remind our youth of the opportunities in the U.S. and how we all should protect our country. He helped many veterans file papers for their deserved compensations. He is survived by his wife Claudine, three daughters and two sons. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Michael and Jenny (Sara), Chloe, Isabella, Giovanna, Sebastiano (Seb), and Nick, Nicole, Nichaela (Martin). His family thanks Dr. Zuroske, Dr. Kohan, and all the Hospice staff for their care. A short memorial service will be held at the American Legion (1029 W. Sylvester St. Pasco) at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday November 14 - all veterans, families, and friends are invited to join us. Lunch will be served. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial gift to veterans' organizations or to the Chaplaincy Hospice, 1480 Fowler Street, Richland WA 99352. -
