Terry Ann Walker Flores went peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father on December 4, 2009 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Terry beat the odds on more than one occasion and fought hard to stay with us and stubbornly refused to give up, to the very end. Born on March 2, 1962, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Armand and Janice Walker, Terry had one older sister, Laura. Her parents moved to the Los Angeles area when Terry was a toddler. Terry grew up in southern CA and graduated from Artesia High in 1980. She loved the beach and spent much of her teenage years there. Terry was the definition of a "Daddy's Girl" and was crushed when she lost her father in 2002. She and her father had very special relationship and adored each other. Her father was the person that dubbed her the original "Brat child" of all the Walker grandchildren. The nickname "Brat" stuck to her for her entire life whenever she was with her parents, sister or her fathers' side of the family. Terry married David Flores in 1982 and became a military wife. Her two children, Jennifer and Steven, were born during the marriage to David, which ended in divorce in 1991. Although she was a single mother, she worked hard and did her very best to make sure that her children had the best life possible. She loved working in her garden where she laughingly joked fairies lived. She also loved lighthouses and antiques. Terry held various jobs, including Pacific Telephone, the Braille Institute and the Cal State Fullerton Police Dept, before leaving CA in 1992 with her children and relocating to the Tri Cities. She started working for the Benton Clean Air Authority in January 1993 and continued there until she could no longer work. Terry loved her job. She truly believed in their mission and the importance of protecting the air quality for future generations. She was very good at the job and her "Verbal Judo" skills helped her excel at what she loved to do. She was never afraid to speak her mind and tell it like it was. She was blessed to have a board, boss and co-workers that were like family and supported her during her illness. Terry's longtime boyfriend, Andrew Paye, took her on numerous trips to Lincoln City, Oregon and Anacortes, WA over the last few years, and those trips brought her more joy and happiness than anyone could know. Terry loved Andy and his family very much. Terry was also blessed to have numerous friends that were always supportive and gave her the strength to continue her battle with a positive attitude. It was this strength that allowed her to fight what she considered an unjust law and in 2005, after successfully campaigning to change that state law, the Governor of Washington declared June 23, 2005 to be "Terry Flores Day" in WA State. On Sept 14, 2007, Terry was blessed with a granddaughter, Emmalyn Ann. This angel was an unexpected gift from God and Terry absolutely worshipped her. Then on January 9, 2009, Terry was blessed with another angel when her grandson, Jaxon Roark was born. Terry, Emma and Jax spent as much time as possible together and her grandchildren gave Terry a new level of strength in fighting her disease. Terry is survived by her children; Jennifer Renee Flores and Steven Andrew Tana Flores, and grandchildren, Emmalyn Ann Flores-Pineau and Jaxon Roark Flores, who were her most cherished blessings; Nathanael Blum and Jacqlyn Perkins, Skylar and Blake Henning, all whom she loved as her own children and grandchildren; her sister, Laura McGuire Bill, nieces Michelle McGuire, Destiny and Serenity Prescott and nephews Patrick and Sean Paul McGuire and Chance Prescott; her much loved Aunt Susan Arnold Schuster and Uncle Chuck Teresa Walker; and numerous other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her two very best friends Lisa Royce Deines and Rossana Steve Capobianco who gave her strength, love and held her hand when she needed it; her very special friend, Andrew Paye, and the Paye family; and Sami Finney, who was Terry's cancer "partner" and was always there to help her through the dark and scary times and be brave when Terry could not. Terry was also survived by her former husband, David, and his family, with whom she remained close. They are: Richard and Elsie Jung, Steven Theresa Flores, Donald Jung, Mary Rider; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was especially close to her nephew Steven Courtney Ireland. Terry was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents; her father, Armand S. Walker, Jr. and her mother, Janice Walker. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to her friends for their love and support. We also want to acknowledge the CBHO staff who worked so hard to keep Mom with us as long as possible. A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of the Falls in Kennewick on December 11, 2009 at 11:00am. Terry formed bonds with so many different people and considered so many to be like family. Our family invites all the family and friends of our Mother to come and share stories and memories at a Celebration of Life at Jackson's Sports Bar, Kennewick, which will be held immediately following the Memorial Service. The family would like to give a special thank you to everyone at the hospice house. The care and compassion that they received was a remarkable gift.
