Roy was the oldest son born to Moss Sprinkler Rawlings and Willard Lucy (Schrout) Rawlings on October 8, 1928, in Cumberland, Maryland. He passed away at home on June 22, 2014 at the age of 85. When he was 17 he started working in the brick yards and decided that was not what he wanted to do for the rest of his life, so he joined the Army. As he left home he reached over to the phonograph and played Hank Snows "I'm Movin' On" and that was what he did during his military career. These were very happy times which took him, his wife Shirley (Reckley) Rawlings and two girls Sharon and Susan to Japan, The Philippines, Ecuador, and Germany. He was an Attaches Specialist dealing with flow of information; encryption and decryption of classified messages. Assigned as Senior Enlisted Advisor to units located in Pasco and Walla Walla, WA and Pendleton, and LaGrande, Oregon. Roy proudly served from 1946-1966, retiring as Master Sergeant. Roy joined the Benton County Sheriff's Department helping to solve several murder cases. He worked with his partner, "Matt", his German Shepard until Matt's death. Roy retired as Undersheriff in 1979. He did lots of traveling and was always planning his next trip or cruise or what other adventure he could think of. Roy is survived by his daughter Sharon (Rick) Long, Pasco, and Sue (Mike) Bumpaous, Pasco; brothers Jack (Rosalind) Rawlings, Westminster, CA, Wayne (Sandra) Rawlings, Antioch, Tenn., George "Ike" (Sue) Rawlings, West Union, SC; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Willard Lucy Rawlings; his father Moss Sprinkler Rawlings, an infant sister Georgianna Rawlings, his ex-wife Shirley and brother Donald "Ed" Rawlings. For the last eight years he shared his life with Don and Sharon Halvorsen and little boy Sarge, his pug dog. There were a lot of good times sharing military and law enforcement stories on the front porch. Thank you Roy and thank you Don and Sharon for the awesome care that was given to him.
