Ronald G. McDonald passed away June 26, 2017 at the age of 82, of Esophageal Cancer. Ron was born in Yakima, Washington on July 29, 1934 to Gale and Eloise (Wattles) McDonald. He grew up in Sunnyside, Washington. He married the love of his life Phyllis J. Holman on June 14, 1952, they just celebrated 65 years of marriage. They moved to Prosser, Washington where he went to work for Bestway Building Center as the manager. After working there for several years, he was transferred to Pasco, Washington to manage the lumber yard there and also took over as the manager of the Kennewick lumber yard. Ron was active in the Prosser Chamber of Commerce, the Pasco Chamber, The Kiwanis and the Jaycees. He left the lumber yard to start his own very successful construction company L & R Building Sales, specializing in commercial steel buildings. He built some of the first Mini Storages in the Tri-Cities and went on to build several large storage facilities in the area. He bought a Hop Ranch in Mabton and built many of the hop kilns in the Upper Valley. In his later years he built several strip malls. He was a man who worked hard his whole life and enjoyed staying busy. Ron was a loving husband, amazing dad and a very loving grandfather, his family was the most important thing in his life. He was a great friend and mentor to many. He enjoyed going to Hawaii and fishing for Marlin, of which he caught many. He and Phyllis bought a place at Williams Lake (Bunkers Resort) where they spent a lot of time and made many new friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest daughter Cheryl. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis; his daughter Denise (Scott) Howell, and daughter Cindy Pacheco; five grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; and his brother Gerald McDonald of Zillah. A private family graveside service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 29, 2017 (his 83rd birthday) at 11:00 am at Badger Mt. Storages, 107515 E. Reata Rd. Kennewick.
