Robert Lewis Olsen of Pasco, Washington passed away on Monday, September 20, 2010 succumbing to advanced Parkinson's Disease. He was residing in an assisted living home in Kennewick at his passing and was treated wonderfully by the Daniela Nicoara family. Bob was born in north central Wyoming in 1925. He was raised as the oldest of 5 children. Being part of a large extended family he once counted 45 first cousins at a family reunion in his childhood. Close to graduating with good grades, he was drafted for the duration of the war and was sent to college by the US Navy. After finishing 2 years, the war had ended, but the Navy wouldn't let him go. For their investment in him, he served another 2 years on a coastal mine sweeper off the California coast. Upon his release and as a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he volunteered for a two and a half year mission. He was called to serve in post-war, communist-run Czechoslovakia where he served faithfully until 1950. Upon his return, he completed his degree in Mechanical Engineering at University of Wyoming. Afterwards, he was hired to work for GE in Richland, WA. He met his bride, Jane Moorby, in Pittsburgh, PA. on assignment for GE. They married there in June of 1954. In 1959, they moved to Pasco where they have resided till his passing. In 1993, heart-bypass surgery extended his life to serve again as a missionary with his wife, but this time in a liberated and free Czech Republic. He enjoyed softball, fishing, singing, and solving problems at work. But most of all he enjoyed his family. He volunteered as a Scout Leader and supported church's annual girl's camp for over 15 years. Bob's life can be summed up with the motto: "Enjoyment in service and compassion to others." Bob is survived by his wife, Jane, and their 3 children: Ole, Kevin, and Janet. He is also survived by his brothers: Darwin and Glenn, and a sister: Wilma Nay.
