Our dad, 67, was called home August 26, 2010 at his home in Burbank/Charbonneau, Washington. On December 14, 1942 in Pittsburg, Kansas, Dad was born to Robert O. Sr. and Dorothy L. Collier Wright. In 1952, his family and friends relocated to Kennewick. Dad enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country as a Field Communication Crewman. During the Kennedy assassination, Dad was stationed in Frankfort, Germany and loved to share stories of his experiences there. He was especially proud that he served in the same division as his idol Elvis Presley. When he returned home, Dad met the love of his life Barbara Kelley. They married September 29, 1964 and had four children together. Dad worked as a Cable Technician for 37 years at Charter Communications. During those years he made many life-long friends in the utilities industry. Dad was a family man who loved to go hunting, fishing and camping. If he had it his way, he would have spent all his time in the Blue Mountains. We often referred to him as "Jeremiah Johnson." Every weekend we could find him rooting on his NASCAR driver and beloved 49ers, Seattle Mariners and St. Louis Cardinals. Dad loved to share stories with us about how as a child he spent time on the farm and followed the St. Louis Browns Cardinals. Dad was proud of us and his family ties and loved to reminisce and share. Robert was a great story teller and we all loved to pull up a chair. He had a strong sense of community. His interest and love of the Water Follies led Dad to volunteer his time setting up equipment early on in his telecommunication career. He was an active lifetime member of the VFW Post #5785. The camaraderie of the veterans was something Dad loved and especially selling poppies every year as he was able to see many familiar faces at Red Apple. Dad never met a stranger. Dad leaves behind our mom Barbara, his loving wife of 45 years; Mother-in-law Vera Stephens; Children, Tannya Frankie Connell of Kennewick, David Heather Wright of Pasco, Tiffanni Wright of Kennewick and Robert O. Wright III JusDean Church of Kennewick. Grandchildren Heather Utecht, Amanda Franklin, Coty and Brandon Connell, Jessica Wright, Christian Waldo, Cailey Wright, Madison Waldo, Mackenzie Wright, Robert O. Wright IV and Great-Granddaughter Kelsey McEntire. He was looking forward to the birth of another grandchild and great-grandchild. He is also survived by his Sister Vickie Sam Zamora- Morris; Nephew Mike "Jamie" Tobi Zamora; Aunt Esther Domas; numerous cousins, in-laws and friends; and last but not least, his special 4-legged friend, Kodiak. Dad was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, many aunts and uncles, cousins, in-laws, friends and special hunting and fishing buddies. "Bob, load it up, it's time to take that drive." Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 4th, 2010, 2 p.m. at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick with viewing from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday. A celebration of Dad's life will be held at the Kennewick VFW Post #5785, located at 28 E. 10th Avenue, following the interment at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
