Robbie Lee Gowan Bell, 97, passed away at the Life Care Center facility in Kennewick on October 2, 2007. Robbie was born on February 27, 1910 to Luther and Magdeline Jacob Gowan in Medina, Tennessee. She graduated from high school where she played on the girl?s basketball team. She attended business school in Jackson, Tennessee. She married Eckle in 1934 and they enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage with one child, Sam. She and Eckle traveled in the southwest as Eckle worked as a Civil Engineer eventually working for DuPont Corporation. They moved to Richland, with their son, in 1943 and lived in Richland until 1951 when they moved to Kennewick. Robbie lived in Kennewick until her death. Robbie served as a homemaker until around 1947 when she went to work at Sadler?s Printing Shop. She later went to work for G.E. in the Richland Housing Office. Robbie loved bridge, tennis and, in later years, golf. She was an excellent athlete generally and became an excellent golfer winning many awards. It was a great disappointment when she starting losing her eyesight and had to give up golf and driving. She moved to Hawthorne Court over 3 years ago as living alone became more difficult, due to her diminished eyesight and hearing. She enjoyed keeping in touch with her golfing friends during her final years, especially Helen Sherman. Helen provided Robbie with transportation and loving friendship for many years. Cheryl Glines, an ?adopted? granddaughter and her family provided love and support to Eckle and Robbie for more than fifteen years. Robbie was preceded in death by her husband Eckle S. Bell Jr, sisters Beatrice Gowan and Sue Rickard; brothers Richard and Alfred Gowan; and grandson George A. Bell. She leaves son E. Samuel Bell; niece Judy Owens; nephew Harry K. Rick Rickard; 8 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be Saturday, October 6, 2007, 2:00pm, at Mueller?s Tri-Cities Funeral Home 1401 S. Union, Kennewick with Interment to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
