Peter B. Hummel

May 14, 1943 - December 10, 2021

Peter (Pete) B. Hummel fell asleep in death on December 10, 2021, after a long hard battle with cancer. Pete was born in Trail City, S.D. on May 14, 1943, to parents Peter and Malonia Hummel. He was number 9 of 13 children. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Eugene, sisters Rose Reichle, and Phyllis Raue. He is survived by his wife Verna, son Shane (Cathryn), stepson Julian (Charmae) Villegas, sisters; Alice Holzer, Angeline Holzer, Lorraine Claus (Dave), Diane Ryan (Dan), brothers; Ben (Myrna), Edmond (Marilyn), Donald (Nancy), Richard (Julie), and Jeff (Mary). Pete also had many nieces and nephews, and close friends. He also took many “kids” under his wings, one being Phillip Mulvey, who called him Daddy Pete when he was little, also, Blake and Michelle, James, and Josephine. Pete had different jobs in his lifetime, however, his heart was in farming, and he was a farmer through and through. He will be missed by the large farming community where he made many good friends along the way. Pete’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the remembrance party given by: Fred Olberding and Jim Roberts (J.R.) who Pete worked for and with for over forty years. Verna would like to give a special thank you to all her family for their unwavering love and support. Thank you also to Hospice for the loving care they gave to Pete. Per Pete’s wishes, there will be no service, his family will have a private remembrance get together at a later date.
