Nolen Benge was born in Portland, Oregon February 16, 1943. He married Karen Swanson and had two children, Teresa and Kim, she passed in 1980. In 1962, Nolen joined the Navy and was given an honorable discharge. Nolen worked on dams and the Hanford project for many years. Nolen got together with Betty Goatcher in 1985 and they remained loving companions for the rest of his life. Nolen opened and started Discount Video in 1980 and was in business for over 25 years. He then retired in 2000, wintered in Yuma and summered in Newport, Washington. In 2012, he moved to Newport to be closer to his family. He was close to his sister, Nelda and they remained close for the rest of his life. Nolen was an excellent entrepreneur who always thrived on new challenges, as a business man his word was his bond. Many deals were done on a handshake. He was a loving family man who was devoted to his children and grandchildren. he would do anything to help them to make sure they were safe and moving forward. I was a close friend, and he was the best friend I ever had. Nolen was always there to help whenever needed. Nolen was truly a class act whose loyalty, wisdom integrity and humor will be missed by all. He is survived by his beloved one, Betty Goatcher; his daughters, Teresa Smoot and husband, Charles, Kim Cannady and husband, Colin; Grandchildren, Karen, Kamber, Dennis, Nolen and Dan Marquez, who was like a son.
