Obituary

Nellie was born on August 22, 1918 in Glen Elder, Kansas to Walter J. and Viola (Sigman) Thurston. She passed away on December 4, 2012 at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland. Nellie and her parents moved to Kennewick in 1922 by rail with all of their possessions in a steamer trunk. In 1923, Nellie was joined by a younger sister, Cora. Nellie attended school in Kennewick and graduated from Kennewick High School in 1936. After graduation she went to work for a family in Benton City and later married their son, Caleb Melvin Moore. They had three children and lived in Benton City. Nellie was a rural mail carrier for 30 years. After her husband died, Nellie continued to live in the home that they built until December 2003 when she moved to Wynwood in Richland, where she resided until her death. Nellie is survived by her sister, Cora McCracken, her three children Neva Shaw (Gilbert), Mel Moore (Vicki), and Melva Fankhauser (Steve), her seven grandchildren Elaine Godfrey (Bruce), Gil Shaw (Melody), Dale Moore (Lori), Brenda Moore, Daryl Moore (Cindy), Simone Brien (David), Paul Fievez, and 12 great-grandchildren, three nieces Catherine Harris (Robert), Marilyn Gant, and Marie Martin (Patrick), one nephew Greg Haste, and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sister-in-laws, and four brother-in-laws. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Benton City on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 1 P.M.
