Mildred Irene Balderston, longtime Kennewick resident passed away on September 8, 2017. Mildred was born May 1, 1921 in Clifton, Kansas to Claude and Ella Balderston. She attended school in Morland, Kansas and graduated from Morland Rural High School in 1940. She immediately moved to Denver, Colorado to obtain a job in a home and a year later started attending Barnes Business College to prepare for a job in the secretarial/clerical field. She started working in an insurance office and stayed for about a year when she received an offer to work for Remington Arms in Denver. Remington Arms was a subsidiary of duPont, Colorado and was in the process of closing down a fair portion of their work in Denver, transferring many to Hanford, Washington to work for duPont there as they were hiring many there at the time. So, Mildred asked to be transferred to Richland to work at the plant there. She was transferred in August of 1944 and after having worked for a number of contractors at the plant, she retired in 1986 from Westinghouse. Mildred was President of the National Secretary Association in 1960. She was a longtime member of the Assembly of God Church (City Church) and accepted Jesus as her Savior at an early age. Mildred and her sister, Lorene, were very important to their nieces and nephews growing up years, camping, fishing, canning their fruits and vegetables, road trips and spending quality time together. Mildred was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ella and Claude, and sisters Ruth Acheson and Lorene Balderston. She leaves to mourn, her sisters, Doris Smith, Denver, CO, Ann Bogue, Phoenix, AZ, Marjorie Minatre (LeRoy), Stockton, CA, along with many nieces, nephews and their families. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 13, 2017, 10:00 a.m., at Riverview Heights Cemetery, 1200 S. Olympia St., Kennewick.
