Michael James Rice, age 65, died of heart failure at Sacred Heart Hospital, Spokane, Washington on December 9, 2014. Mike was born September 18, 1949 in Hutchinson, Kansas and graduated from Trinity Catholic High School, Hutchinson in 1967. He worked for J & J Drainage for 31 years in Hutchinson, Kansas as a National Salesman of safety slope end sections and culvert pipe. He retired in 2009 and moved to Surprise, Arizona. In 2013 Mike and Mary moved to Kennewick, Washington. Michael was a member of Knights of Columbus, Holy Cross Parish, Kansas Land Improvement Contractor's Association, Kansas County's Highway Association, Kansas Contractor's Association, and National Corrugated Steel Pipe Association. Survivors include wife Mary Rice, Kennewick, Washington; son Mark and wife Desiree, Kennewick, Washington; and daughter Molly and husband Edwin Mwatha of Renton, Washington. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Clare Rice and brother, Jack Rice Jr. Local services are pending. There will be a Memorial in Hutchinson where he lived his life early next year. The Rosary will be at 12 noon and the funeral service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church Chapel, 520 S. Garfield St., Kennewick, WA 99336.
