Mary. E. Fortier Mary went on to heaven and joined the angels on January 1st, 2015. She was born on May 13th, 1923 in Early, Iowa to William and Elsie Galigan. After graduating high school, Mary moved to St. Paul, Minnesota to live with her older sister, Lucille and find a job. It was in St. Paul that she met Larry Fortier. They were married on September 10th, 1943. After the war, in 1947, they moved out west and eventually settled in the Tri Cities, Washington. They first lived in the North Richland trailer park and in the mid 1950s moved to Kennewick and started a family. In 1960, the family moved to Pasco and lived there until 2011. Mary loved her family very much and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She would always put the needs of others before those of her own. She enjoyed camping and watching sports, particularly horse racing. Painting and playing piano were her two favorite hobbies. Mary worked as a secretary at Mark Twain Elementary school in Pasco during the mid 1960s and early 1970s. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Pasco for over fifty years as well as the Alter Society and other organizations. Mary was a very devout Catholic her entire life. Mary is survived by her sister Theresa Lies, California, and her children Tom Fortier in Kennewick and Ann Rogers (Chuck) in Pasco as well as four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Elsie Galigan, Sisters Lucille Galigan, Celesta Galigan, Cecelia Barnett and her beloved husband of sixty seven years, Larry Fortier. Mary lived a great life and will be missed by her family and friends. We love you, mom, grandma and great grandma. Many thanks to the staff at Hawthorne Court for the wonderful care and friendship that was shown to Mary. A Rosary will be held at Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home, 1608 West Court St, Pasco on January 9th at 6PM. A graveside service will be held on January 10 at 12PM at Columbia Memorial Gardens, 224 South 24th Ave in Pasco followed by a reception in the St. Patrick's multi purpose room at 1320 West Henry St. in Pasco. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, that a donation be made to your local Hospice.
