Mary Ann Koskinen, 91, passed away February 16, 2009 with family gathered around her. Mary was born November 6, 1917, in Blairhall, Scotland to R.T. and Elizabeth Tolson. Her family traveled by ship from Scotland to Montreal, Canada when Mary was nine. The family journeyed by train from Montreal to Mullan, Idaho. Mary married John Koskinen August 24, 1935 in Wallace, Idaho. Mary enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, board games with great grandchildren, bowling, fishing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Mary was very proud of her Scottish heritage and loved to tell stories about the "old country". She was known for her Scottish shortbread, currant cake, and chocolate pie. Mary was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and a member of the First Lutheran Church of Kennewick. Mary is survived by daughters: Betty Jean Carl late Gilbert J., Joanne Clements Virgil, and Mary Ann Schlatter Eugene; eight grandchildren and spouses: Deanna Lamebull Steve, Cathy Carl, Susie Tynan Jess; Roland Franks, Jana Franks, and Joel Franks Willa; Scott Schlatter Carrell and Gena Saelid Tom; eleven great grandchildren: Stephanie and Zachary; Lesley and Morgan; Jordan; Lauren, Glynne Mary, and Daniel; Valerie and Dylan; three great-great grandchildren: Brianna, Arianna, and Jace. The family sends special thanks to friends: Melba Schlatter and Sara Foraker; caregiver, Jana Franks; and good neighbor, Mike Tesky. Preceding her in death was her husband, John; great granddaughter, Kristen; son-in-law, Gilbert; and two sisters and seven brothers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity. Memorial Services will be held at Kennewick 1st Lutheran Church in 418 North Yelm Street in Kennewick on Saturday, February 21st at 1:00pm.
