Lifelong Washingtonian Marion F. Longmire Liniger Gorman passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, July 11, 2011. She was born on July 28, 1913, in Moxee, WA, the firstborn child of Omar and Celia Longmire. Sisters Lorene and Betty and brother Omar, Jr. later joined the family. Her growing up years were difficult but she rose above her circumstances and grew up to make for herself a wonderful life. No fact proves her strength of spirit and character more than her determination to earn her GED, which she did in 1986 at the age of 73. She married Lawrence Liniger on July 10, 1935 and had 2 children, Myron and Marilyn. Marion and Lawrence raised their kids on a farm in Wapato where Marion was a "Jill of All Trades". She could sew, crochet, embroider, refinish furniture, tend her chickens and tomatoes, lead 4H, and play the piano like a dream. Lawrence passed away in 1958, and in 1959, Marion and Marilyn moved to Seattle. They both signed up for courses at Edison Technical School where Marion took classes in the culinary arts she didn't like to cook, but she was good at it!. She took a job in the kitchen of a retirement home and would often sneak out to entertain the residents with her piano playing. While living on the west side, she met and married Bernard "Bud" Gorman on July 16, 1961. They made their home in Sumner until 2001 when they moved to Pasco. Bud passed away later that same year. Marion is survived by her son Myron Liniger and his wife Mary Ann and their 5 sons: Larry and his wife, Kathy, Scott Michele, Brian, John Lavina and Paul Dawn; and daughter Marilyn Smith and her sons David and Jay Stacy. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Michael and Ashley Liniger, Josh Rickie and Candice Liniger, Phillip and Alisha Liniger, Aubrie, Lucy & Toula Liniger, Sloan Smith, and Katie, Thomas & Raleigh Smith. Her great-great-grandchildren are Aubrey, Hailey, Jacob & Joseph. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Lawrence and Bud, sisters Lorene Harber and Betty Reed, and brother Omar Longmire, Jr. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 16, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 10th Avenue & Union Street, Kennewick, WA.
