Marie "Marietta" Unruh, age 83, passed away September 21, 2010 at Bates Home of Compassion in Kennewick. Marie was born on December 20, 1926, in Yakima, WA., to James Ellsworth Boles and Evelyn Pearl Engstrom Boles. She married Irvin V. Unruh on September 4, 1943 in Yakima. They celebrated their 58th anniversary before Irv's passing on 9/10/01. Marie & Irv lived on a farm on Cochran Road in Finley for more than 50 years. Marie managed the Finley Shopper for many years but quit in 1977 to become a full-time "Grandma" to her dearly loved grandsons Paul, Caleb & Gabriel Knutzen. Marie will be remembered for her strength of character, listening ear, kind heart, love of children and pets, and for being a hard worker. She enjoyed singing and, even though she forgot the words, she was always in pitch. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, James Frances "Bud" Boles, and her precious daughter, Noreen Marie, in 1972. She is survived by daughter, Leigh Ann Knutzen Steve; grandchildren, Paul Knutzen Jody, Caleb Knutzen, Gabe Knutzen; Noreen's daughter, Tammy Walgamott Josh; brother-in-law, Alvin Unruh; niece, Shirley Murphy; nephew, Don Unruh Lee; brother, Ron Boles Kathy; great grandchildren, Brendan, Kyler and Ryan Knutzen, Katie Noreen and Thaddeus Walgamott; special friends Rita & Edwin Davis and many nieces & nephews. Marie had studied with Jehovah's Witnesses and believed in the Bible's promise of a resurrection and living forever in a paradise on earth John 5:28, Gen. 1:28; Isa. 55:11. Special thanks and gratitude to Vince and Tina Bates, their family & staff, for the warm love & care they showed Marietta for 5 years especially through the difficult stages of Alzheimer's dementia. Kind thanks also to Lacey, Melinda, Holly, Dezi, Mary and her many friends at Adult Day Services, where she "worked" for many years. She benefited greatly from their activities, care and friendship, and always enjoyed her Dial-a-Ride drivers. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Homes, 1401 S. Union in Kennewick with interment to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick.
