Margaret C. Surmeyer Martens, a long-time Kennewick resident, was born in Woodburn, Oregon on February 13, 1924, and died in Richland on Tuesday October 25, 2011. Marge was raised on the family farm and graduated from Woodburn High in 1941. Marge met Richard "Dick" Martens in Portland in 1950. They were married on July 5, 1952 and had been married more than 59 years at the time of her passing. She and Dick moved from Vancouver, Washington to The Dalles, Oregon in 1958; and then to the Tri-Cities in 1964. Marge was an avid bowler and pinochle player. She and Dick were members of St. Joseph's Catholic Parish in Kennewick where their children attended grade school. Although she worked at several jobs over the years, she was primarily a homemaker and mother. Marge is survived by her husband Dick; daughter Linda Harry Miller of Gardiner, Montana; son Steve Julie Martens of Beaverton, Oregon, and son Jim Sheri Martens of Kennewick, Washington. She was blessed with eleven grandchildren Jeffrey, Sarah, Brooke, Rachel, Brian, Nicholas, Briana, Kyle, Alexys, Tyler and Kylie; three Great-Grandchildren Aiden, Amarissa, and Aaron; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marge is preceded in death by son Thomas, and siblings Frank and Al Surmeyer, and Rita Winnepenninkx. Interment has taken place Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick. A memorial gathering will take place at the cemetery Mausoleum on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Mom & Grandma, we all want to know, are you having fun yet?
