M. Eleanor Vetter 11-5-1915 to 1-6-2015 Eleanor was born 11-05-1915 in Schofield Michigan to Elvanette (Hudson) and Louis Fisk. Her parents had 3 girls of which Eleanor was the youngest. At age 2, she was raised by her Aunt Clara Lee Everett in Spokane Washington after her father was killed working as an electrician in New Jersey. Eleanor Fisk and William Frederick Vetter married at Newport WA on February 11th, 1938. They worked on a farm in Colfax WA and then went to Grand Coulee so Will could work on the Grand Coulee Dam. They moved to Kennewick WA in 1947 so Will could work at the Hanford site as a carpenter. Eleanor and Will had 3 children, Sandra Lee, Linda Lou and Stephan Frederick while at Grand Coulee. While Will worked at Hanford, they also owned and ran a country grocery store on Rio Grande in the Lampson Home sites in Kennewick until 1955. Eleanor was widowed in 1960. Eleanor worked as a homemaker and helped run the Vetter Grocery Store. When the store closed she worked for Dr. Richard and Dr. Katie Morton in their home raising their 4 children and doing housekeeping. Eleanor also worked with the Chore Service helping the elderly. She helped her daughter Linda raise her grandchildren while they worked. Eleanor enjoyed family and friends that came by to visit. Eleanor loved and appreciated the simple things in life which made her smile; whether she saw your face or heard your voice she made you feel like you had just made her day. She was a "keeper" of all the children's drawings, cards, little trinkets, and especially her 3 ring binders of her journals. She collected anything of interest in the newspaper, magazines, letters from family and friends and her comments about what she thought about the current world events. Eleanor loved to sew and later only sewed by hand. She boasted in her later years that she could still thread a needle. She made many potholders for all the family & friends. Her favorite magazines were the National Geographic, Country, Archeology and Smithsonian. She loved to sing childhood songs and say the poems that she had memorized when growing up. Of course her favorite thing to do was to play pinochle. Grandma had a favorite thing she collected and treasured and shared with her grandkids and great grandkids, even though only a few of us really shared the passion with her. Grandma spent hours and hours stamp collecting with us. She used two blue tupperware suitcases to organize and keep the collection. She gave all the grandkids starter stamp books. Later she liked to collect post marks from different towns all over since Lois Kirk was collecting information from cemeteries. Eleanor's 3 children live on in her memory: Sandra Lee Parker (John Charles) of Lynnwood WA, Linda Lou Durfee (Alfred Lee) of Kennewick WA, and Stephan Frederick Vetter (Sandra Kay) of St.Clair MI. She is survived by 6 grandchildren: Marcia Cameron Traeger, Eileen Louise Durfee (Thomas Dean Slone), Stephan Michael Vetter (Dionne Marie), Jennifer Marie Prater (Michael Hussain), Cynthia Ann Vetter , and Peter William Vetter. She is survived by 16 great-grandchildren: Jeremiah Daniel Ellison, Nathan Anthony Vetter, Christopher Michael Vetter, Joshua David Ellison, Erin Marie Cornelius (Lawrence Harding), Jacob Cameron Traeger, Danielle Marie Ellison (Andres Huesca), Samuel Ridge Prater, Nicholas Andrew Vetter, Henry Clinton Prater, Stephan Denzel Vetter, Rachelle Nichole Vetter, Lauren Janie Vetter, Anthony William Vetter, Curtis Matthew Vetter and Caleb Ethan Vetter. She is survived by 5 great-great -grandchildren: Tanner Lee Todd, Aspen Aurora Cornelius, Elijah Cale Huesca, and Ethan Alexander Huesca, Elise Odette Cornelius. The family wishes to thank Eleanor's daughter Linda for taking care of Eleanor over the last 15-20 years. M. Eleanor Fisk Vetter was living at the Royal Columbian Inn until she became ill.
