Obituary

Lauffer "Lofty" E. Gillman, 79, went to his Heavenly home on March 8, 2009 at home with his family by his side. He was born January 18, 1930 in Butler, Pennsylvania. He was the last born of 7 children. He joined the Marines in 1947 and retired on December 18, 1968 at the rank of Gunnery Sgt. After a few different jobs he became water foreman for the city of Suisun City, CA, where he retired in 1989. He was a life member of VFW Post 2333, Suisun, CA, where he held the post of Commander for 3 terms. He also held the post of Seam Squirrel for Pup-tent 16 of Suisun City, CA. Since moving to West Richland in September 2005, he was involved in the Northwest United Protestant Church of Richland, West Richland Senior Association and the Richland Senior Association. His favorite passion other than his family was the Pittsburgh Steelers. He never missed a game on TV. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 44 years; son, John Gillman Susan, of Fairfield, CA; Daddy's girl , Jayne Barton of West Richland; 8 grandchildren, Sheri' Vittitoe, Nathan Barton, Kristi Gillman, Alia Asuncion, Kristofer Barton, Linda Gillman, Jason Barton/Gillman, Katie Gillman and 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Clerance Gillman of Butler, PA and also his faithful sidekick, Brownie. The family wants to thank all our church family, friends and Hospice for everything that was done to make Dad/Papa's last few months enjoyable and comfortable. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to NWUP Church or Hospice at the Chaplaincy of Kennewick. Viewing will be Wednesday, March 11, 2009, 5pm to 8pm, and Thursday, 9am until 9:45am, at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home located at 1401 S. Union Street in Kennewick. Graveside services will be Thursday, March 12th, 10:00am, at Desert Lawn Memorial Park located at 10th & Union Street in Kennewick. Memorial Services will follow the burial, at 1pm, at Northwest United Protestant Church located at 1320 Sacramento Blvd in Richland.
