Lena Elizabeth Rogers, 96, left Hospice at The Chaplaincy for her destination in Heaven on July 5, 2012. Born in Colfax, Washington, she grew up in Hayden Lake, Idaho. She got a teaching degree from Lewiston Sate Normal and taught for four years in a one-room school in Blanchard, Idaho. Moving to Kennewick after marrying Victor D. Rogers in 1940, she resided here for 72 years. In her latest working years, she was a pharmacy clerk for two different pharmacies. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lena Sommers and later, step-mother Mary; sisters, Alice Watson and Norma Kyle, and brother, Herbert Sommers. Her husband died in 2009 after 69 years of marriage. She is survived by sons, Ken Galina Rogers of Salmon, Idaho, and William Rogers of Kennewick; daughter, Kathy Larry Ayre of Finley; grandchildren, Chris Amy Ayre of Kaiserslautern, Germany, Steven Meghann Ayre of Monterey, Calif., Andrey Tolmachev of Palmdale, Calif., and Ilya Chashchin of Salmon, Idaho; great-grandchildren Hannah, Kasey, Megan and Hudson Ayre. Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday July 13, and 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union St., Kennewick. A celebration of Lena's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, at Columbia Community Church, where Lena was a life-time member, at 150 Gage Blvd., Richland, 99352.
