Laura Safford, 69, was born February 17, 1939 in Kremling, Colorado to Walter and Ruby Lee King. She passed away unexpectedly on Oct 11, 2008 while visiting grandchildren in Corvallis, Oregon. Laura graduated from Kennewick High School in 1958 and lived in Kennewick for 60 years. Laura Lee King married Gene Safford on July 18, 1959 at the Highland Methodist Church in Kennewick. She was office manager for Wellman's Floor Covering and retired as a caregiver for fragile children. Gene and Laura have 3 sons, Ron Desiree Ross of Clinton, WA, David Cherry of Kennewick, and Scott Karen of Corvallis, OR and 2 step children, Kathy Rick Johnson of Bellevue, Jim Boone of Brandon, Mississippi and Cindi James of Bothell, WA. She is survived by sister Yvonne Mike Corcoran and brother Stan Linda King, grandchildren Natalie, Kiana, Alani, Madelyn, Olivia, Elizabeth, Allison and Tony Safford, Tamara Rhone, Killian and Kiah Ross, Adrian and Rusty Floyd, and great-grandchildren Ashley, Austin, Damien, Kayden, Bob, and Zane Floyd. Laura was preceded in death by parents Walter and Ruby Lee King and great-granddaughter Kira Floyd. Laura's hobbies were spending time with all of her grandchildren, watercolor painting, walks with her best friend Kitty in Columbia Park and talking on the phone with her sister Yvonne. Her biggest challenge was being married to Gene for 49 years but she sure was looking forward to their 50th wedding anniversary next summer. Laura was always, always, laughing and smiling. She could talk to friends and strangers alike for hours. She spread light and love to many, many people. We don't know why she was taken from us so suddenly, maybe as a reminder of what she believed, and what she wrote in her KHS 50th class reunion booklet, "Life is Good" Memorial with reception following will be Wednesday, October 15 at 2 pm at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home on Union in Kennewick
