Kevin Charles McCary passed away on April 16, 2016, in Eltopia, Washington. He was born May 5, 1968, in Salem, Oregon to Robert and Sheila McCary. He has two older brothers, Danny and David, and a younger sister, Shelly. Kevin was known for playing pranks on his brothers and especially his little sister. His parents remember his infectious smile that was always plastered on his face, as well as his wide range of talents. While attending High School, Kevin enjoyed participating in wrestling, playing football, and running track. He was privileged to be the first 1A athlete invited to run at the Pasco Invitational. He broke and defended multiple track and field records. Kevin developed his beautiful talent of singing through solo performances and participating in various choirs. Kevin served a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Indiana, Indianapolis Mission. After his mission, he attended Ricks College where he met and married his sweetheart Cathleen Wariner in the Portland, Oregon temple on June 27, 1991. He graduated from Ricks College with an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice. Later he was hired on as a patrol deputy for the Benton County Sheriff's Department. He served the Department for 24 years in various positions such as, SWAT Team Sniper, Special Investigative Unit Supervisor, Patrol Sergeant, and most recently Detective Sergeant. Kevin was part of the Big Brothers Program, and a volunteer for many years with the Special Olympics. Kevin thoroughly enjoyed his line of work, and highly valued his friends within the law enforcement family. Kevin's love of the outdoors and passion for "country living," drove his desire to live in small town Eltopia where he raised his four children Shaniel, Katlyn, Parker and Tori. Kevin enjoyed riding horses and raising pigs with his children to sell at the local livestock show. Hunting, fishing, and camping with his father, brothers, and son, were among some of his favorite pastimes. Kevin has four beautiful children in whom he was very proud of. Along with his wife, Kevin was a big supporter of his children's education and extracurricular activities. Whether it was a piano recital, high school graduation, Jr. Miss Scholarship Program, soccer or a football game, he always attended with pride. All who had the privilege of interacting with Kevin, can attest to his fun-loving, humorous personality and infectious smile. He was a wonderful man who was respected by many. We love you Kevin! You will truly be missed!
