Kenneth W. Bracken lost his battle with cancer after more than 13 years. Ken was born in Seattle, Washington on September 21, 1942. He graduated from Renton High School. Ken lived in Kennewick for 44 years and raised three children with his wife of 52 years, Marian Bracken. He met Marian at Central Washington University, where he received his undergraduate degree in Accounting. While at CWU, Ken drove a school bus to help pay for school and was a member of the Elwood men's living group. Ken was also in ROTC at Central and served his country in the Air Force honorably. Ken and Marian lived in Turkey, at the Incerlik Air Force Base during his service. After being discharged Ken and Marian went to Pullman, where Ken received his Masters in Business Administration. After graduation Ken went to work for the Atomic Energy Commission in 1972 and later retired from the Department of Energy in 1995 as the Chief Operations Officer. After retirement he worked as a consultant and served on the Hanford Advisory Board. Ken loved to hike in the state of Washington and beyond and spent time in deer camp with his sons, grandchildren and friends every fall. He was an avid duck hunter, spending many days on the water his sons and Barry Tausch. After retirement Ken and Marian spent much of their retirement traveling the world and enjoying casinos where Ken loved to play poker. Many of their retirement days were spent at their lake home on Curlew Lake puttering in the yard, sitting around the fire pit, and entertaining family and friends. The fourth of July was Ken's all time favorite get together. Ken was preceded in death by his daughter, Shelly Ann Bracken, father, Walter Bracken, mother Ida (Bracken) June, brother Gary Bracken, stepfather Wes June, father and mother in-law Ben and Margaret Meier and nephew Danny Mackey. He is survived by his loving wife Marian Bracken, sons Eric and Scott Bracken (Sheryl), grandchildren Anneka, Liam, Meier, Stella and Elliot Bracken, sister in-law Elizabeth Bracken, brother and sister in-law Joe and Bernice Mackey and nephews Andy Bracken and Mike Mackey. Ken was a supporter of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Please donate to these institutions in lieu of flowers. Ken was laid to rest at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 10th and Union Street, in Kennewick.
