Obituary

Joshua Randall Givens-Bowen passed away May 17, 2007 after a long illness. Josh was born in Reno, NV on December 4, 1980. He attended school in Susanville, CA until the age of 12. He then attended school in Tehachapi, CA and Bakersfield, CA moving to Naches, WA in 1997 where he graduated from high school in 1999. Josh was as strong patriot who loved his country. Josh begged his mother to sign a release in order for him to join the Army Reserve while he was a junior in high school. Josh went active duty after graduation serving until early 2001. He was heartsick with the attacks of 911. After fighting two years to satisfy a health issue, he was finally able to rejoin the army in early 2004. Josh served overseas until serious health issues sent him stateside. He was on active duty at the time of his death. In 2004 Josh met the love of his life, Shayla Joy Hogan. They were married on September 30, 2004. They were gifted with a brief, yet wonderful, life together. Josh was an obsessive fisherman and sports fan. He loved the 49ers, Suns, Cal, and Earnhardt, both Jr and Sr. He was a connoisseur of fine and not so fine beer. Josh loved to cook , garden , moon, prank and did all very well. Josh loved to play games with family, but he was a sore loser. He loved family and friends almost as much as his big red truck!. Josh is survived by his wife, Shayla Givens, of Kennewick, WA, his mother and step-father Victoria and Tom Bowen, of Portola, CA, his father and step-mother Randy and Terri Givens, of Susanville, CA, mother and father- in- law Mary and Bill Hogan, Kennewick, WA, sisters Anni Yardic, of Yakima, WA, Jhinnah Givens of Susanville, CA, step-brother Ricky Gianotti of Susanivlle, CA, step-sisters Mindy Wolcott, of Susanville CA, Nancy Lazard, of Reno, NV, Christy Yardic, Susanville, CA, Tori Bowen, Quincy, CA, Tiffany Catalan, Brigham City, UT, Trisha Bowen, Reno, NV, Tenille Bowen, Brigham City, UT, Sister-in-law Darlene Morse, Kennewick, WA, Victoria Griffith, Beaverton, OR, special nephews Jacob, Klayden who lived with him, aunts Tracy Austin-Middleton, Tempe AZ, Vera Austin, Long Beach, CA, Linda Givens , Susanville, CA, uncles Tom Givens, Susanville, CA, Gayle Givens, Winnemucca, NV, and his grand ?Mamma? Evelyn Austin and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friend Judy Bowman. Josh was preceeded in death by his aunt, Valerie Austin, his grandparents Ivan and Dorothy Givens, and his grandfather, Ken Austin. The funeral will be held at Mueller?s Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S Union, Kennewick, WA, on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 11 am. Patriot dress A viewing will be held Monday May 21 from 3-8 pm. A reception will follow at the Hogan home at 1418 S Quillan Ct, K Burial will be held Friday May 25, 2007 at Cherokee Pioneer Cemetery, Cherokee, CA. A viewing will be held in Susanville at the Walton Funeral Home, TBA. In lieu of flowers donations could be sent to Shayla Givens at the Hogan home for a Park Bench Plaque at Howard Amon Park, one of Josh and Shayla?s favorite spots.
