Joseph A. Hafner, 87, passed away on July 11, 2007 in Kennewick, Washington. Joe was born in Yreka, CA to John & Irene Hafner on September 18, 1919. Joe was raised in Northern California. He was the oldest of three brothers; John, George and Carl and one sister, Mary. Joe served in the US Army during WWII and received an honorable discharge in August 1942. Joe relocated to Southern CA in the mid 50?s, living in San Diego, Temecula and El Cajon. Joe retired from the U.S. Civil Service Commission in 1974 with 35 years of service where he worked both with the Federal Forest Service in California and the Navy Public Works Center. Joe was a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic. Joe was well known and respected for his expertise in rebuilding antique cars. He was an Honorary Life Member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, a Lifetime Member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, member of the H H Franklin Club, the Horeseless Carriage Club of America and the Siskiyou County Historical Society. Joe got great pleasure in talking about old cars, hunting and fishing trips, firefighting adventures, his many travels, playing cribbage at which he was hard to beat, and enjoying a glass or so of Yukon Jack. He had a reputation as a practical joker and an uncanny ability to remember names and faces. Due to his health problems, Joe, under the care of his nephew, Mike Brubaker, lived the last two years of his life in Kennewick, WA. Joe passed away of natural causes while in the company of Mike, his wife and sons. Joe is survived by his wife, Dottie M. Hafner; brother George Fern Hafner and their children; Connie, Mark, John and David; nephew, Michael Lauri Brubaker and their sons, Christopher, Michael and Nicholas; niece Barbara Eidson and her children Michael and Dawn; niece Kathy Webb Garcelon and their children Stacey and Mark; 18 great-great nieces and nephews plus numerous cousins in the Northern California Area, the closet being Helen Moore of Weed, CA. A Graveside Service, including military honors, will be Saturday, July 21, 2007, 11:00am at Mt. Shasta Memorial Chapel & Park, Lassen Lane & Pine Grove Drive, Mt. Shasta, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the local Native American Fund.
