John William Godding, longtime Kennewick resident, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2007, at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland after a short illness. He was a lead chemical operator at Boise Cascade in Wallula, serving nearly 30 years before retiring in 1987. John was born February 22, 1927, in Cayuga, WI, to Adelbert and Laura Godding. He moved to Washington state with his parents as a young boy. He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Simpson Plywood Mill and ITT Rainier in Shelton and later moved to the Tri-Cities in 1959. John loved the outdoors, especially snowmobiling, camping and mountain hiking. He rarely missed a boxing event on TV and was a motorcycle and dune-buggy enthusiast. In his later years, he and his wife, Pat, enjoyed 17 different cruises around the world. John was known for his easygoing nature and was particularly popular with young children. They loved their 'Papa John' to carry them and swing them around. He will be loved and missed by all. He is survived by his beloved wife, Pat. Other survivors include son, William Godding Barb; daughters, Sally Ruddell and Merrieann Godding; stepdaughters, Sandra Clark William, Janell Johnson Mark, Michele VanSickle Randy, Terri Fox Tom; stepson, Brad Webber Weijiang; sisters, Allegra Godding and Geraldine Walker; brother, Douglas Godding Nancy; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Morton Godding and Harlan Godding; sisters, Gloria Chapman and Romaine San Clemente; and grandson, Mac VanSickle. John attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kennewick, WA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union St., Kennewick, with graveside services following at Riverview Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007 at 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
