John M. (Mike) Saint passed away May 11, 2018, in Kennewick, Washington. He was born in Leavenworth, Washington, On January 15, 1939, to John H. and Lois (Word) Saint. Following graduation at Brewster High School, he worked for the teamsters, in Seattle, then decided to join the Navy. When he went to see the Navy recruiter, the recruiter was out to lunch. The Air Force recruiter was kind enough to invite him into his office to wait and join him with coffee and cookies, which reeled him in, making a twenty-two year career of it. Following Aircrew Protection/Survival Training tech school, his first duty assignment was at Larson AFB (Moses Lake). In June of 1959 he married Marilyn Pearl and they had their first child, Michael. After the closure of Larson AFB, he moved to McChord AFB (Tacoma). He was assigned to Eielson AFB (Fairbanks, AK). While there, their daughter Kristy was born. After 3 years in Fairbanks he was transferred to Forbes AFB (Kansas). After Kansas he was reassigned to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, AK where his third child Kathy was born. Then on to Charleston AFB (South Carolina). Next stop was South Korea. Following Korea, he was assigned to Andrews AFB (near Washington D.C.) Next was his best assignment, Bitburg Air Base in Germany. His squadron was the first in Europe to get the F-15 Eagle aircraft. While stationed in Germany he had the opportunity to visit Norway, France, Spain, Vietnam and even attended the Queen's Silver Jubilee in England. His final assignment was in Grand Forks AFB (North Dakota), retiring in June 1979. Upon his retirement from the Air Force he moved back to Bridgeport, Washington. He worked various odd jobs at the Chief Jo Tavern and the Brewster Grange. His second career was with the Corps of Engineers in Purchasing/Warehousing, retiring in June of 2000. Mike was a very active American Legion member where he spent his time volunteering, calling Bingo and playing Santa. In 2005 he was American Legion Post Commander. He also enjoyed camping with family and riding his Gold Wing "Trike" (3 wheeler). He also loved playing on-line Double Deck Pinochle. Mike moved to Kennewick last year to be closer to his daughter, Kathy. Mike is survived by daughters, Kristy Howell (Pat), Omak, Washington, Kathy Marple (Steve), Kennewick, Washington, granddaughters Nikki Schroder and Mickaela Marple, six great grandchildren and brothers Don Saint, Bridgeport Washington and Phil Saint (Linda) Omak, Washington. He is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, sister Bobbie (Marie) Neumann, and son Mike. There will be a memorial service at the American Legion, in Brewster, Washington on June 2, 2018 at 3:00 PM.
