John Honigh Jackson, 88, died peacefully December 9, 2009. He was a loyal friend, father and grandfather and his life exemplified many of the qualities of ?The Greatest Generation? having taken part in many of the pivotal moments in our nation?s history. John was born June 3, 1921 in Monrovia, California where he had a carefree childhood wandering among the orange groves with his brothers and sisters. Known as ?Pudge? by many of his friends, his teen years were spent tinkering with cars with his brother George and doing his best to get in as much trouble as he could. He had a mechanical mind and could fix almost anything he set his mind to. His father often kidded him for being ?lazy? because he could always find the most efficient and practical way to do a job. When WWII broke out, John served in the Army Air Corps as a radio operator in Italy. He was known for keeping up the morale of his unit and was awarded several medals for good conduct during his service there. After the war, he married Clara Mae Sayre in 1949. The couple settled in Lancaster, CA. where they raised their daughter, Linda. After working several years leasing land from other farmers in Lancaster, John and Clara Mae moved to Pasco where he bought his first farm on Glade Road in 1970. He was a good farmer and was known for his work ethic and ingenuity. In the ensuing years John retired from farming and moved into a house in Pasco. His wife passed on shortly thereafter and he later married Eva ?Gerri? Sills In 1985. They spent much of their time working in the yard and finding various projects to do together. John spent many hours in his workshop tinkering with his antique cars and making things for his family and friends to enjoy. John and Gerri enjoyed hosting wonderful get-togethers for family and friends. He enjoyed keeping in touch with farming friends and with his associates at the Three Rivers Model T Club and the Walla Walla Sweet ?A?s Model A Club, where he went on many memorable tours around the country. He will be missed by family and friends alike for the honorable man that he was. All of us are better for having known him. Services will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at 11:00am, at Mueller?s Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union in Kennewick, WA with interment to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
