Our beautiful mother, Joaquina Diaz, 90, went home to be with our Lord, surrounded by her children, on March 21, 2018. Joaquina was born on August 27, 1927 in Bryan, Texas to Piedad Escamilla and Margarita Cortez. Joaquina was the youngest of seven children. She worked at the Hamilton Hotel in Texas where she met the love of her life, Daniel Diaz. They were married in 1949 and spent 31 years together until his death in 1980. She worked for Lamb Weston in Connell, WA for 25 years until her retirement. Joaquina was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles, watching the "I Love Lucy" show and, most of all, spending time with her family. She is survived by her seven children, daughters Anna Eklund (Jerry) of Spokane, WA, Juana Diaz Vaughan of Lacey, WA, Margarita Eder (Gary) of Kennewick, WA, and Rosa Diaz of Pasco, WA. Sons, Daniel Diaz Jr of Kennewick, WA, Joe Diaz (Bekke) of Pasco, WA and Antonio Diaz (Mary) of Pasco, WA. Along with 20 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Joaquina was preceded in death by her husband Daniel, infant daughter Olga, three grandchildren, Manuel, Amanda, and Sarah, great-granddaughter, Austin, as well as her three brothers and three sisters. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 30, 2018 at 11:00am at Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home, 1608 W. Court Street, Pasco, WA Our heartfelt gratitude to Chaplaincy Hospice Care and Mary Diaz for the loving care they provided to our mother in the last few months.
