Jim B. Gessner passed away December 20, 2009 at his home in Prosser with his wife of 62 years, Jeanne, at his side. He was born December 12, 1927 in Spokane, Washington. He was in the Coast Guard during WWII discharged as a Petty Officer in 1948, being a licensed boat operator he piloted several ferries that traversed the Columbia River prior to bridges being built. Working in construction as an operating engineer local 370, he took part in many projects along the river, construction of bridges and dams, worked in Viet Nam during the 60's and retiring from construction at Hanford in 1990. His life long love was traveling on his motorcycles, which with Jeanne, travelled all of the States including Alaska and Canada attending many rallies and gatherings. He is survived by his wife, two daughters Jenny and Dale Kinkade of Colorado Springs, CO., and June Gessner of Salida, CO., three sons James Powell, Jory and Ruth Gessner of Spokane Valley, and John and Diane Gessner of Prosser, 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter-in-law Donna Powell. We would like to express our sincerest thanks to all of the home care personnel who have become such a big part of our lives over the last year. Life would have been intolerable without their hard work and dedication. Services will be held Saturday, June 5, 2010, 2:00pm, at Desert Lawn Memorial Park 10th & Union Street, Kennewick.
