Obituary

Jean Cora Hales passed away after a short illness on October 21, 2014 with her daughter and son at her bedside. She was born in Delta, CO on September 3, 1922. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard Richard Laskowski and Vera (Getts) Laskowski, her husband, Howard Hales, and her daughter-in-law, Linda (Mlakar) Hales. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Hansen (Arnold), her son, Stanley Hales, her sister, Patricia Crabb (Terry), six grandchildren—Benjamin Hales (Julie), Nicholas Hales (Aigezza Pureza), Hillary Hansen, Hale Hansen, Henley Hansen, and Haley (Hansen) Handy (Tim) and one great-grandchild, Mariah Hansen. She grew up in Delta CO, Topeka, KS and Huron, S.D. After graduating from Huron High School in 1939 she attended University of Minnesota. In 1943 she and her sister were recruited to work at Hanford on the Manhattan Project. They only planned to stay for a few months, but both continued living in Pasco permanently thereafter. After WWII she met Howard when he returned from the war. They were married in 1946. Howard passed away in 1978 and she never remarried. Proud of her family, she was a dedicated housewife and mother. Her work ethic and skill with yard care and flowers led to Yard-of-the-Month awards three times. With slipping health she moved into Tri-City Retirement Inn in December 2012. She remained there until her death. The love and friendship from the retirement home staff brought great joy to her life. The family sincerely appreciates all their support. She requested no funeral. For those interested, they may make a donation in her behalf to the charity of their choice.
