Helen Anne (Skinner) Mitchell was born on August 4, 1934, in Minneapolis to Charles and Helen (Bushnell) Skinner. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on January 5, 2022. She lived in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, until she moved with her parents in 1948 to Pullman, Washington. She graduated from Pullman High School in 1952. She attended Washington State College (now University) where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and graduated in June of 1956. She married her high school sweetheart, Dean Mitchell, on December 16, 1955. They moved to Boise after their college graduation, and then to Bellingham, Washington where their first son, David William, was born. They moved to Kennewick in 1957, where their second son, Douglas Charles, was born. They moved briefly to Yakima, Washington, where their daughter, Lisa Helen, was born. They moved back to Kennewick in 1963, where they have resided ever since. Helen was an active member of Kennewick First United Methodist Church, and in the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Guild, as well as Chapter HQ of P.E.O. She was a member of the Red Hat chapter, the Ladies of the Purple Sage. She taught for several years at Small World Pre-School, but her main love was her family. She enjoyed every concert, play, and game that her children and her grandchildren were involved in. She also enjoyed traveling, and she was blessed with trips to nearly all of the fifty states, as well as trips to Europe. A favorite place of Helen's was their cabin at Lake Pend Oreille and she thoroughly enjoyed time spent there with family and friends. Helen was predeceased by her parents and a baby brother. She is survived by her husband, Dean, and their children: David (Vali) Mitchell, Douglas (Kathy) Mitchell and Lisa (Bruce) Cutter. Also, their grandchildren, Ashley (Kyle) Olivier, Steven (Amy) Cutter, Morgan (Joel) Orchard, and McKenna and Claire Mitchell. As well as great-grandchildren, Emma and Isaac Olivier. A memorial service will be held at the Kennewick First United Methodist Church on Saturday, February, 19 at 1pm. A live stream will be available on the church YouTube page for those unable to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to either the church or the Tri-Cities Cancer Center.
