Harold 'Pee Wee' passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at Kadlec Memorial Hospital in Richland. Harold was born Nov. 25, 1927, in Camp Arkansas, Ark., to Alfred and Alma Ball Watkins. He moved with his family to Washington when he was 14. In 1944, he met the love of his life, Anna May Galloway; wooing her with his guitar. They were married April 20, 1946. He was 19 when he went to work as a construction foreman for the Guy F. Atkinson Construction Co., on McNary Dam on the Columbia River. He and his family followed the company to a number of projects. After the McNary dam project he and his family moved to northern Luzon in the Philippine Islands, building another dam. They later moved back to Washington and he went to work on the dam at The Dalles in Oregon and then to the Ice Harbor dam project. He made another move with his family to Sitka, Alaska, to work on a pulp mill and then came back to Washington to finish the job at Ice Harbor and then moved on to projects at Little Goose and John Day dams. He worked on Lower Monumental and Lower Granite dams as well as dams in Mica Creek, B.C., and Venezuela in South America. He also worked jobs in San Jose, Murphys and Arnold, Calif. Harold loved the challenges of his work and took pride in his ability to provide an adventurous life for his family. Pee Wee was a story teller and loved to retell his stories of adventure to anyone who would lend an ear. He had a full and exciting life with his family and in his younger years played guitar in a band with his father-in-law. He and his wife always enjoyed music and they would often entertain their family with her accompanying him on the piano. He and his stories will be missed by us all. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Alfred and Alma; daughter, Rosalind Lea Shepherd; and one son, Randall K. Watkins. He is survived by his wife, Anna; son, H. Steven Watkins and wife Connie; brother, Curly Watkins; sister-in-law, Louise and husband Ed; grandchildren, Sean, Jennifer and Shauna Watkins; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
