Memorial services for Gloria Showalter, 70, a long time resident of Kennewick, will be conducted at 11:00am, Friday, March 13th, 2009, at South Hills Church located near 27th Ave & Highway 395 in Kennewick. Mrs. Showalter died March 5th in a Spokane hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of the late Bruce Showalter, a former Mayor of the City of Kennewick. She was born November 15, 1938 in Olympia, Washington to George and Pearl Husk. She graduated June 5, 1957 from Pasco High School. She was a very active member of South Hills Church and choir. She was a past Royal Matron of the Kennewick Court, Order of the Amaranth and a member of the Richland Order of the Eastern Star. She was also active in the Richland Kennel Club. Her survivors include daughter Cherrie Scott Miller, Kennewick; son Roger Martha Nelson, Spokane; stepchildren David Showalter, Seattle & Diana Ortiz, Tacoma; grandchildren Cory & Tyler Miller, Kennewick, Cameron Elisa Miller, Seattle, Gerald, Anna & Maggie Nelson, Minnesota, Tyler Ortiz, Tacoma, and Michael Michelle Penny, Georgia. She will be laid to rest at a private service at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. The family requests remembrances be made to Hospice of Spokane or Kennewick.
