Obituary

Gladys Despain Flygare passed away on February 19, 2016 at the English Rose Center in Kennewick after a lingering illness. She was 82. Gladys was born to Thomas Ward and Mildred Mangus Despain on December 1, 1933 in Lovell, Wyoming. Gladys moved to Tri-Cities, Washington with her father, mother and brother Howard in 1942. Ward worked in the Hanford area for many years. Mildred (Millie) was a stay-at-home mother to Gladys, brother Howard, and sisters Glenna and Gloria. Gladys had many jobs in her life. She worked as a telephone operator, picked asparagus, fish counter, bee keeper, and hospital aid. Gladys never knew a stranger. If someone needed help, Gladys was there to help when needed. Gladys was a life time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Gladys served three missions for the church, one as a genealogist specialist in Salt Lake City, one with her husband Charles Terrell and one with her husband Grant Flygare. Gladys was preceed in death by her husbands, David Anderson, Charles Terrell, and Grant Flygare; her parents, Thomas Ward and Mildred Mangus Despain, older sister Barbara Ruth, and brother Howard Despain. Gladys is survived by her children, Robert (Judi) Anderson of Kennewick; Karen (Neil) Sullivan of West Richland; Raymond (Mary) Anderson of Walla Walla; Danny (Diana) Terrell of Selah; Stan Terrell of Auburn; and LaDonna (Justice) Arehart of Spokane. She is also survived by her sisters, Glenna (David) Yocum of Union, Missouri and Gloria (Clifford) Etherington of Kennewick, Washington. She is survived by 25 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wants to thank the staff of English Rose Manor, caregivers of Gladys, Dora, Kathy and Myra and Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Hospice.
