George J. Carr died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Hospice at the Chaplaincy in Kennewick, WA. He was born in Glendale, CA on September 8, 1945 and attended Moffet County High School in Craig, CO where he graduated in 1963. He graduated from Southern Colorado State College with a B.S. in Physics and Minors in Engineering and Math in 1970. In 1974, George completed a 10 week specialized Health Physics Training Course at Oak Ridge Associated University ORAU. He participated in additional training programs associated with OSHA-related responsibilities and Emergency Preparedness programs. George had an extensive career as a Health Physicist in radiation protection. He worked at Pacific Northwest National Lab PNNL on the Radiation Portal Monitoring Project as well as supporting multiple projects including Shelter Implementation Plan Project in Slavutich, Ukraine. His career overseeing health and safety operations also included Argonne National Laboratories at the INEL in Idaho Falls, ID, where he supported HP evaluations of various reactors. Early in his career, George provided health physics support in programs involving the Uranium Mill Tailings in Grand Junction, CO and Wyoming. He traveled extensively in the Former Soviet Union, the Ukraine and some in Australia, where he applied his expertise in radiation safety in many other programs and operations. He was a member of the Health Physics Society. George also had the opportunity to travel to Germany, Cyprus, Egypt, Turkey, Poland, Bulgaria and Thailand. George was preceded in death by his father, Harold Loyd Carr; his mother, Bertha Villa Futhey Carr and a brother, Albert Ray Carr. George is survived by his loving wife, Galina M. Chernomorets, whom he met while working in Russia on the international assignment; daughter, Deidre Dong-Hee Malek; step-daughters, Nadezhda Chernomorets and Elena Postoenko; and grandchildren, Caleb Taylor Malek, Shania-Lee Malek, Dacallos Beaudy-Lee Wilburn, Maleiah Lola-Lee Wilburn, Kostya Adamenko and Victoria Postoenko.
