Jan. 5, 1928-Feb. 16, 2013 George was born in Pueblo, CO, the seventh of eight children of Ippolito Pietro "Paul" and Teresina (Morrone) Cannataro. Both Paul and Teresa emigrated from Italy via Ellis Island, NY in the first decade of the 20th century. George joined the Navy after graduation and attended the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD. He graduated with the class of 1950. He served as an officer on the destroyer USS Brinkley Bass, bound for Korea and the Battle of Inchon. In 1956, he went to work for Electric Boat at the Mare Island shipyard in California where he worked as an engineer on the nuclear submarine program. In 1959 he met Janet Larson and they were married in Sausalito, CA on January 30, 1960. George worked at Clatsop Community College in Astoria, OR until 1966. Son Michael was born in November 1960 and daughter Gabrielle was born in October 1963. In 1966, George took the position of Dean of Vocational Education at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake. In 1970 he was promoted to Dean of Instruction at Big Bend Community College, where he stayed until 1972. Son Joseph was born in July 1971 and son John was born in August 1973. From 1973 until his retirement in 1994, George continued to teach educators at the graduate level, with a focus on vocational education program and curriculum development. In 1974, the family moved to Kennewick and he worked as Power Operations Manager for the City of Richland. From 1977 through his retirement at the end of 1994, George worked as an electrical engineer at the Hanford project. During his retirement years, George became a Master Gardener and enjoyed many years of fishing and camping. George and Janet have been members of St. Joseph Catholic parish since 1974 and have been active in the parish in various capacities, including being Eucharistic Ministers. George continued his life long participation in the Knights of Columbus, and also sang in the choir for many years and was a cantor. He was also the president of the Kennewick Little League from 1983-1987. George is survived by his wife Janet, son Michael and his wife Renee (Jones) Conatore of Olympia, WA, daughter Gabrielle Conatore of Mt. Vernon, WA, son Joseph Conatore and his fiance Kathleen Barnes of Kennewick, WA and son John Conatore and his wife Kathryn (Marino) Conatore, also of Kennewick, WA. He is also survived by Sister-in-Law Susan Larson Bulgrin and her husband James Bulgrin of Surprise, AZ, niece Delores Conatore Voight of Antioch, CA, niece Lois Conatore of Pueblo, CO, grandchildren Teresa Marino of Renton, WA, Sydney Gilbert of Everett, WA, Garrett Gilbert of Bellingham, WA, Cody Williams, Sharon Peterson, Matthew Barnes and Lukas Lamb of Kennewick, WA and several other nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law Robert and Ardena Larson, brothers Michael (Nellie), Charles (Rose), Dominic and Louis (Pam), sisters Josephine Blatnick, Francis (Russell) Weber and Ursula (Harold) Cline and nephews Cecil Paul Kimberling, Paul Joseph Conatore and Cecil Weber. There will be a Rosary at 7:30pm Wednesday, St. Joseph Catholic Church (old Church) in the Chapel with a Funeral Mass on Thursday at 1pm, February 21 followed by a reception at Dillon Hall, adjacent to the church. All are welcome at the Rosary, Church Service and Reception.
