Eveline Jenner, a Tri-Cities resident for 55 years, passed peacefully in her sleep the morning of September 12, 2008. She died the same way she lived…gracefully. Her quiet dignity and cheerful disposition seemed to touch all she met. She and her late husband, Bernard, immigrated to the US from England in 1952. She survived the Blitz of London working in an armaments factory and he survived the Battle of the Atlantic in the Merchant Marines. Finding post-war England lacking in jobs and housing for a young couple, they decided to immigrate to Australia. However, the Spokane husband of a GI bride Eveline's best friend intervened and stood as their sponsor to come to America. This intervention profoundly changed their lives. They moved to Pasco and lived in Pasco and Kennewick for the rest of their lives. Their new country welcomed them with open arms and ample opportunity. Bernie became a small business owner The Shopping Spot in Pasco and Eveline eventually the bookkeeper for Monarch Machine in Pasco. Like so many immigrants, Eveline loved her adopted country but was always an "English girl." Her struggles with American English are a comic part of the family lore. She complimented her neighbor on her "homely" daughter and she left a note for the milkman to "Knock me up in the morning and I'll pay you". People might laugh at what she said but they never laughed at her. She is survived by her son, Brian and his wife Linda, who was the daughter she always wanted. The precious treasures of her life were her grandchildren, Michelle, Michael and Karen. It was her great fortune and theirs that she was actively involved with their early years. The fond memories of traveling in the RV with Grandma and Grandpa they will never forget. She touched their lives and their success as young adults today is partly attributable to the lessons learned from her. Her legacy will continue with her namesake, her two year old great granddaughter, Eva. Every member of her extended family were touched in some way by her gentle kindness. They are Karen's husband Dan Gemeinhart of Cashmere; Linda's daughter and son-in-law Nicole and Shane Pierone and their son Spencer of Yakima; Linda's son and daughter-in-law Kyle and Amy Johnson and their children Broden, Isabella and Luc of Kennewick. We have decided to celebrate her life with a private family gathering. She will never be missed by us as we will carry a little piece of her in our hearts.
