Dorothy Winona Hibbard Reed passed into eternal rest with her Savior after an extended illness on Friday, August 3, 2007. Her family was by her side. Dorothy was born May 8th 1927 in Colorado Spring, Colorado to Roy Linden Hibbard and Louise Alvina Burke Hibbard. She spent he early childhood in Denver, Colorado graduating from Denver?s South High in 1945 and later from Colorado Training School in 1948 as a Registered Nurse as part of the Army Nurse Training Program. She married Robert Harold Reed on July 25, 1947 at Grace Baptist Church in Denver. She moved with Bob to the Tri-City area in 1948. In their early years they enjoyed camping and hiking in the Cascade Mountains with their three sons. Later Dorothy and Bob developed a passion for white water rafting and took several trips down the Colorado River together. They were members of Richland Lutheran Church and joined Ascension Lutheran Church when they moved to Kennewick. Dorothy later joined Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sunnyside. Dorothy worked at several local hospitals as a Registered Nurse retiring from Kennewick General Hospital in 1985. In her retirement she was active in the American Red Cross for a number of years, and also enjoyed traveling with the friends and making new friends from her involvement with the Elderhostel organization. In 1997 Dorothy moved to Sunnyside to live near her son and lived there until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob, a sister, Margery Longaker of Kennewick and a grandchild Sharon Reed. She is survived by her brother Roy Hibbard of Richland and her three sons James Reed of Kennewick, William Reed of Sunnyside and Edward Reed of Yakima, six Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren . Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 10, 2007, 10:00am, at Mueller?s Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union St., Kennewick with Interment to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park 10th & Union, Kennewick.
